Powder River Chapter was organized on April 12, 1958, in Miles City, by organizing regent, Gussie Henerson. Powder River Chapter chose its name as a tribute to those early and late settlers who lost and won over the Powder River.
Three State Regents have come from this chapter. Lulu Ellis was recognized as Montana's Outstanding DAR Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service member. She went on to not only win the Northwestern Division but the National award as well from among some 171 contestants. The chapter has marked historical sites. They also mark the graves of their deceased members, placing flags on their stones during Memorial Day. The chapter has received special recognition for their Constitution Week activities during the 116th and 117th Continental Congress.
